High School Horrors Part 25

Chapter 5

Katie frowned, suspicious at the lack of movement in the army in front of them. She had witnessed the others summonings with wonderment, but the niggling in the back of her mind, the threat in front of her, couldn't let her enjoy the moment as much. She could feel the power of Gilykos pulsing beneath her, his body vibrating slightly as he growled softly at the enemy. They cut a fine picture, four Angels riding a top four Elemental beasts, fronting a small army of all sorts of different races against a pulsing wall of black. She could smell the different smells of the elements combining, the Element female guardians not far behind the front line, each in a different patch of the army. Katie had seen several people move towards a certain guardian and a thought crossed her mind, that every one had a strong connection to one element and that they were moving towards the woman whose element they connected with. The smell of the salty sea air, mixed with a burning fire, the clean smell of a winter breeze and her own mounts smell of damp earth and a forest just after rain. A hushed silence had descended on what was now a battlefield. Katie could almost hear the sound of a thousand breaths being held as the small army of students and teachers stared at the threat of darkness in front of them. It was like they were all waiting on a signal, a sign to  attack. A fleeting thought shot through Katie's head as she remembered most of her army were still kids. Squeezing her eyes shut, she pushed the thought to the back of her mind and sighed, turning to say something to her brother. Her conversation was stopped short before it even begun, though, as a thoroughly evil laugh penetrated through the dark army, echoed by a thousand non-mouths. The sound sent shivers down her spine and a icy spike of fear into her brain. She could hear people behind her shuffling and muttering in fear. 'No, I shall not be intimidated by this invisible enemy,'. She fought down the fear, and turned to the army, raising a fist in the air.

"WE SHALL NOT BE INTIMIDATED BY AN ENEMY TOO SCARED TO SHOW HIMSELF. WE ARE STRONG, WE ARE SPECIAL AND WE SHALL DEFEND OUR SCHOOL!" The people closest to her raised their fist and cheered, weakly at first, but the cheer got stronger and like wild fire, the cheer spread through out the army, a forest of fists raising in the air. Katie smiled grimly and turned back to the army in front of her. She was strong, she was not alone. As she took a deep breath in, time seemed to slow down. The blackness in front of her seemed to pulse slowly, then ripples appeared as they moved forwards. Time still slowed as she let out a battle cry and leaned forwards, urging Gilykos forwards. She could almost feel the shift of power as the Elemental women moved forwards too, with their encircling crowd of defenders. The wind whipped back Katie's hair as they ran towards the oncoming darkness.  Gilykos' teeth were bared, ready to tear into the closest shadow beast. The sound of hundreds of feet running behind her pounded in her ears. She could almost see the soulless 'faces' of the shadow beasts as Gilykos approached. He leapt at the exact moment each shadow beast, starting with the front, poofed out of existence.  He landed amongst black smoke, slowly fading as the student army came to a halt in surprise at their disappearing enemy. Katie watched in shock as the entire black army dissipated into black vapour, leaving a chill wind and an almost mocking air to the battlefield. It was like her enemy had deemed them not ready to face real battle.  Gilykos growled with displeasure.

" Gilykos, what happened?" her steed shook his head and sniffed the air

"I do not know, but I think they are gone for a while. I do not like this those, it smells of foul magic and the other world," Katie grimaced and clenched her fists.

"What the hell is going on here?!"
